Jessica Simpson on Tony: ‘I Love This Guy’

Posted on 30 April 2008 by JoyCeleb

Time flies when you’re in love, Jessica Simpson has discovered. Though her relationship with Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo only has been cooking since around last Thanksgiving, “It feels like forever,” Simpson, 27, tells Glamour magazine for its June issue. “I love this guy. Can you feel it?”. Crediting Romo, 28, with helping her rediscover her inner strength, “What he’s done for me is irreplaceable,” she says. “He reintroduced me to myself. I thought that I had to be deeper, more profound and more artsy. … Tony taught me that because he loves me [as me]. He made me feel comfortable [being myself] again.

On the topic of her ex-husband, Nick Lachey, she says, “There’s too much competition [with a musician],” while of John Mayer, with whom she was linked on and off for nine months (he recently was spotted in Miami with Jennifer Aniston), she says, “You change with the guys you date. [I thought] I had to be more intellectual.”

She tells of meeting Romo after she heard on TV that he had a crush on her – and she thought he was “really cute.” They eventually flirted over e-mail and the phone, then set up their first date for Nov. 20, when her entire family went to see Romo play.

Their First Kiss
When they finally ended up in the hotel restaurant, “He goes like this across the table,” says Simpson, demonstrating how Romo puckered up. “I go, ‘What are you doing?’ He goes, ‘Nothing,’ and starts pouting. I said, ‘Were you just trying to kiss me in front of all these people?’ He goes, ‘Maybe.’ I’m like, ‘Try it again.’ ”

Looking back, she says, “The fact that this guy, on our first date, in the first 10 minutes of dinner, wanted to lean over the table and say, This is my girl and I want to kiss her – our first kiss in front of everybody – was awesome.”

Hilary Duff Dishes on Avril, Lindsay and Miley

Posted on 30 April 2008 by JoyCeleb

Hilary Duff may have been in show business for a decade, but she’s never gotten used to tangling with her fellow celebutantes. “It’s hard to find people who don’t feel like they’re in competition with you,” she tellsHilary Duff Dishes on Avril, Lindsay and Miley Allure in its May issue. But while Duff, 20, may try to stay out of the fray, she can’t help but chat – a little, anyway – about some of her peers. She dishes to Allure about Lindsay Lohan, Miley Cyrus and Avril Lavigne:

• On Lindsay Lohan: “Supposedly, I stole Lindsay Lohan’s boyfriend [Aaron Carter.] We were, like, 13! And I’ve never stolen anyone’s boyfriend! I don’t know how you do that! . . . She was talking about it and I wasn’t. It made us both look bad and put up a big weirdness. Really she was just a girl my age. We are fine now, by the way.”

• On Miley Cyrus: “We don’t have each other’s phone numbers. But when she meets me, she’s excited. It’s cute – I see a lot of myself in her.”

• On Avril Lavigne: “I said something about how she didn’t like her fans dressing like her, and how she should appreciate that because it’s a compliment. She called me a goody-goody [Lavigne called Duff a 'mommy's girl' in Newsweek] Everyone is trying to prove who they are, and their position. So, I’m ‘the good girl.’ She’s ‘the bad girl’ or ‘the party girl.’ Sarah Jessica Parker doesn’t take her clothes off, but she’s not a ‘good girl.’ [Adult actors] don’t get tagged like we do.”

Jennifer Garner Laughs Off Baby Question

Posted on 30 April 2008 by JoyCeleb

Jennifer Garner appreciates her fans – even when they ask the tough questions. Asked, “When are you going to have another [child]?” during a break in filming This Side of Truth last Friday, the 36-year-old actress laughed off the unexpected query. “Sometime,” she replied. “I don’t know. I have to think about that one.”

Garner – who was in Lowell, Mass., shooting the flick (costarring Tina Fey and Ricky Gervais) – made sure to spend quality time with fans of all ages. But she paid special attention to her youngest admirers.

“I have to say hi to the girls,” she said, heading over to sign autographs for a crowd. She made sure all the children got some face time.

Ben Affleck’s other half asked one little girl, “Are you a swimmer?” before revealing, “I was a swimmer when I was your age.”

Other young fans asked about daughter Violet, 2. “She’s good,” replied Garner, who fended off compliments about her appearance with some good-natured modesty. She joked to one admirer: “That’s what five hours of hair and makeup will do for you!”

Cameron’s Letter to Fans

Posted on 30 April 2008 by JoyCeleb

Cameron Diaz skipped a press junket for her new film, “What Happens in Vegas,” Saturday, and instead sent a handwritten letter. Ashton Kutcher delivered the note from Cam, whose father died less than two weeks ago from pneumonia.”First of all, I want to thank all of you for your support over the years,” Diaz wrote. “So many films, so many weekends discussing films. I was really looking forward to this weekend getting to talk to my friends about a film that I am so proud of.

“Due to the loss of my father, I have chosen to be with my family this weekend. But it was important for me to convey to all of you how much I love this film. We really did have the best time, and the most fun and laughs making it. I know that the stories Ashton, Rob [Corddry] and [Director] Tom [Vaughan] share with you will illustrate that point. I was fortunate to work with a group of truly gifted individuals that share the common denominator of a generous heart and wickedly sick sense of humor.”

The letter continues, “This weekend I am screening “What Happens in Vegas” for my family. It was a unanimous decision that we all needed to share a good laugh. After all, that’s why we make films like these. So people can leave behind their worries for a couple of hours. Have a good laugh.

I picture all of your smiles and it makes me happy.

Thank you for your continued support. It is much appreciated.”

Paula’s ‘Idol’ Confusion

Posted on 30 April 2008 by JoyCeleb

It was a hectic night on “American Idol,” with the final five each crooning two Neil Diamond songs. Instead of the usual format, in which the judges critique each hopeful after their performance, Randy, Paula and Simon were asked to take notes during performances and offer their opinions at the end of each round. The new format threw off Paula Abdul — she critiqued both songs from Jason Castro — even though he had only sung one! “The second song, I felt like your usual charm wasn’t — it was missing for me. It kind of left me a little empty,” says Abdul, “the two songs made me feel like you’re not fighting hard enough to get into the top four.”

Randy Jackson cleared up the confusion by reminding Paula that Castro had only sung once. Even judge Simon Cowell, who had his usual harsh critiques for the aspiring Idols, admitted that the new format had also thrown him for a loop. “This was officially the strangest show we’ve ever done,” Cowell said at the end of the show, “but I like that. It’s kind of a bit chaotic tonight.”

Paula Zahn blew her fortune, sez hubby Richard Cohen

Posted on 30 April 2008 by JoyCeleb

The scourned husband of former CNN anchor Paula Zahn says there’s no way he could have mismanaged her millions because she was spending the money as fast as she made it. Less than two weeks after being sued by Zahn for making “dubious investments” with more than $25 million, her jilted hubby, Richard Cohen, fired back by branding his estranged wife a wastrel who wants to air their dirty laundry in public.

Paula Zahn blew her fortune, sez hubby Richard Cohen“The $20 million cost of her Connecticut mansion alone (without even including the extravagant nature of Ms. Zahn’s annual expenditures) consumed more than her entire income over their 20-year marriage,” Cohen’s lawyer, Douglas Flaum, charged in court papers filed in Manhattan Supreme Court.

A source close to Cohen, 59, added that Zahn, who recently lost her anchor job at CNN, spent “wild” money on clothes, even as the network gave her a healthy clothing allowance.

Flaum argued that Cohen, a real estate mogul, couldn’t answer Zahn’s charges that he made “dubious investments” because “her earnings were spent elsewhere.”

The legal volley fired by Cohen, whom the 51-year-old Zahn dumped for a steamy affair with multimillionaire Paul Fribourg, upped the ugliness in the couple’s public split after two decades of marriage.

Divorce papers have yet to be filed, and Cohen charged that Zahn’s suit, filed late on Aug. 24, was nothing more than a sneak attack to smear him in the press - even after months of “highly sensitive” settlement talks between the warring spouses.

“Ms. Zahn has gone to great lengths to conceal the true nature of the action: a marital dispute that should be heard, if at all, in a matrimonial proceeding,” Flaum wrote.

If the suit was as calculated as Cohen contends, the ploy may have backfired when the Daily News revealed days later that Zahn had a “love book” that documented her romance with Fribourg, the married CEO of ContiGroup.

Cohen discovered the lurid volume with the couple’s 17-year-old daughter, one of their three kids.

“It’s a shame that her lawyer launched this untrue lawsuit,” a Cohen friend said. “It’s created a bigger mess.”

Zahn’s lawyer, Stanley Arkin, did not return calls. Zahn could not be reached for comment.

In the suit, Zahn charged that Cohen wasn’t being forthcoming with her demands for an accounting of what he did with more than $25 million of the TV news reader’s fortune. It also accused the megabucks developer of diverting some of Zahn’s earnings into his own account.

Cohen, the founder of Boston-based Capital Properties, contends in court papers that Zahn would rather make flashy purchases than investments.

Cohen’s image previously took a pounding when he served as president of a co-op board that in 2004 evicted red-tailed hawks Pale Male and Lola from their fancy Fifth Ave. perch.

Zahn’s nasty fight with her soon-to-be ex-husband comes on the heels of her split from CNN, which once hyped her as “just a little bit sexy” to the sound of a zipper being unzipped.
