Mel Gibson has twin sons who turn 26 this year, Edward and Christian, who both have stints in rehab. Ed was out of rehab late last year for an alcohol and cocaine addiction, and Christian got a DUI in 2006 and checked into rehab in late January of this year. Mel, who has also has a well publicized DUI under his belt, has recently befriended pop singer Britney Spears, 26. Britney has spent time at Mel’s estate in Costa Rica and has been seen out to dinner with him and his family.

While some speculated that Mel wanted to help Britney with her personal problems, and others wondered if he was trying to convert her to his unique brand of Catholicism, Mel may have had another motivation for spending time with Britney. The National Enquirer reports that Mel tried to set Britney up with the less messed-up twin her age, Edward, but that Britney wasn’t having that. Mel’s son Edward is working his recovery program and the Enquirer says Mel believed he would be a good influence on her.

[Mel Gibson] believed his son Edward - who was in rehab last year for cocaine and alcohol addition - had turned his life around and could help Britney do the same, an insider told The Enquirer.

“Mel felt Ed would be a great influence on Brit, and if the relationship turned to romance, all the better,” said the insider.

So Gibson arranged a meeting between the pair at Britney’s home in the Hollywood Hills last March, said the source.

“He sincerely believed that his son could help Britney stay on the straight and narrow and that they might hit it off as a couple as well,” the insider explained.

But Britney, 26, gave the cold shoulder to Mel and Edward…

“She hid from them most of the night,” revealed the insider. “Mel and his son spent most of the evening talking to her bodyguards.”

There must have been no hard feelings between Britney and Mel after she tried to avoid the set up with one of his sons. She was seen at his Costa Rican getaway in mid-May. Britney also brought along a man with whom she’s been romantically linked in the past, agent Jason Trawick. Maybe Britney and Jason were already dating at that point and she wasn’t open to meeting Mel’s son or maybe she just wasn’t interested in the guy. Can you imagine thinking it’s a good idea to set up Britney Spears with a member of your family, though? At that point it had only been two months since she had that big melt down and was hospitalized.

In related news, OK! Magazine reports that Britney and Kevin had a “secret meeting” with their lawyers over the custody of their two boys. It is thought they are working to avoid having to go to trial to hash out custody issues. The talks were said to be unsuccessful, though, with neither of them willing to compromise. Britney went back home and then had a massage at the Ritz Carlton.

Things aren’t looking so bad for Kevin Federline anymore. The former punch line to many a joke – and really anything involve the words ‘douche bag’ or ‘wifebeater’ – has actually managed to get a bit of a career going for himself, besides being a professional baby daddy. K-Fed’s musical skills are legendarily laughable, but he does have something going for him: his looks.

Before you yell at me… okay once you’re done yelling at me… in the right light - when you forget that he’s Kevin Federline – he can actually be kinda hot. I remember seeing him un-douched for the first time in Details magazine three or four years ago when he was still married to Britney, and I couldn’t believe it was the same person. He was damn hot. Then I read the accompanying interview, and all the hotness melted away. But if he does like a good model should: keeps his mouth shut and just stands there and looking pretty – he might have a good career for a little bit. And Federline’s recently received some offers.

Kevin Federline, a former struggling backup dancer, is now being offered a seven-figure endorsement job! Britney Spears’ ex-husband has been approached to be the new face of Christopher Brian Collection, In Touch can exclusively reveal.

“We feel Kevin would be a great model for the line,” Chris Stokes, a music producer who co-owns the denim brand, tells In Touch. Nothing has been set in stone regarding the modeling gig because the 30-year-old father of four is busy with other projects.

“Kevin is also working with Chris on his music and movie career,” an insider tells In Touch. After being named Father of the Year by Privé nightclub in Las Vegas on June 13, K-Fed may soon give Britney a run for her money. “He is in everyone’s good graces right now, so he feels like it’s the time for his career to shine,” the insider says.

Being a bad boy isn’t necessarily bad for one’s career, but being a joke sure is – and that’s exactly what K-Fed was. He’s right, now that everyone’s taking him a little more seriously, he should take advantage of it. Of course it’s worrisome that the same guy that’s offered him a modeling gig is also helping him make more music. That’s like offering someone a heart-healthy orange and a tub of lard to eat at the same time. The good from the former is easily canceled out by the bad of the later.

Federline has a little bit of modeling experience. He modeled for Five Star Vintage in 2006, but was dropped. I’m guessing because he wanted to focus on his rapping.

Britney Spears had overnight visitation privileges with her sons restored by an L.A. court today. TMZ says:

Sources tell us Brit Brit, who has been slowly gaining visitation back inch by inch, has made such progress the Commish agreed in court today she’s ready to have sons Jayden James and Sean Preston with her overnight. We hear Britney’s parenting coach Lisa Hacker was at the hearing today, and answered several questions from the Commish. Britney, who was all business in the courtroom, smiled as she left the courthouse. They’ll be back in court again July 15th. (Source)

A Los Angeles court ordered a “change” in Britney Spears’s visitation arrangement with her two sons, a court rep said Tuesday after a hearing attended by the pop singer and her ex, Kevin Federline.

The new terms were not revealed, but Superior Court spokesman Allan Parachini suggested that the closed-door hearing, in which Spears’s parenting coach answered questions from the court, went well for the pop star.

“There was a change in [Spears's] visitation status that was ordered,” he said. “Britney’s demeanor in court was businesslike. I think any judge is pleased to see progress being made by parties in a case.”

Another hearing was set for July 15.

Lindsay Lohan realizes she isn’t as big a draw as she once was and with no significant work in the near future, meaning no income whatsoever, she’s sunk to selling her own exclusives to magazines. The first of which was supposed to be a $1 million story to OK! Magazine detailing her lesbian relationship with Samantha Ronson. However, Page Six leaked the story and now Lindsay is having second thoughts since it might “jeopardize future exclusives.”

“She might not have wanted to do a cover before when it was actually news (that she’s dating Samantha Ronson), but she wants someone to do the story now, she needs the money,” said the source. “Of course a deal isn’t going to work now, after so many pictures of the two of them have already gone public.”

Not only is Lindsay having fame problems, but so are the rest of the Lohans. They’re being bested by the Spears.

“She can’t believe Britney Spears got so much attention for ‘How I Met Your Mother’ and no one cared that (Lohan) was on ‘Ugly Betty.’ Even Jamie Lynn (Spears) has managed to steal the little-sister spotlight from Ali (Lohan) by timing the end of her pregnancy with the start of ‘Living Lohan.’ It’s not an auspicious season for the family.”

When you can’t even sell your own exclusives to magazines, that’s when you know you’re an idiot. Lindsay was probably sitting around looking at pictures of her kissing Samantha and thought she could make money by exclusively telling a magazine that she and Samantha are gay for each other. This is the equivalent of buying an iPhone and the next day going to the patent office to get some sort of copyright on it. On an unrelated note, one time I went to a patent office to tell them about my cool new phone idea. I couldn’t realy make out what they said through all that laughter, but I think the answer was “no.” Whatever.

Sources say Britney Spears will make a cameo in the currently filming Pussycat Dolls music video for When I Grow Up. It is “small part” that does not require her to dance or sing. Instead, in the scene shot Wednesday, Britney is driving and waving. Us Weekly says:

“They all wave at each other as they are passing in traffic - that is it.

“It is genius and you will love it!” said the source.

“Of course, Britney looks hot and blonde,” the insider added.

Seth Rogen is currently penning and will most likely star as the titular character in the film adaptation of The Green Hornet set to be released in summer 2010. Although a director has yet to be chosen, executives already have a few ideas on who should play Kato, a role made famous by Bruce Lee. A tipster wrote to AAM.

This week is the big Licensing Show in NY.

I can’t tell you what industry I’m in, but we met with a studio this week to discuss possible licensed products for an upcoming Green Hornet film. Now, I must preface this by saying the film is still being written, so things can change, but what I’m relating to you is what was presented to a group of 12 of us (from several different companies) by the studio executives.

The Green Hornet will star Seth Rogan as The Green Hornet. He will be totally inept, a bit like Inspector Cleuso . Kato will actually be the hero, but he saves everyone, including The Green Hornet, without TGH ever realizing its not he himself doing it.

So this is where it gets interesting, I will refer to the executives as executive 1 and 2, and the potential licensors as PL 1, 2, and 3:

PL1: So who would play Kato?

Executive1: We’re thinking a Chinese actor, possibly Rain.

PL2: Rain isn’t Chinese.

Executive1: No, I think he is (looks at Executive2 who is nodding in agreement)

PL2: No, I’m actually positive he isn’t. He’s Korean.

Executive2: Well, he’s one of those. That’s just one option.

Executive1: The other option is, get ready, Will Smith!

PL3: Will Smith? Will Smith isn’t Asian.

Executive1: (Bursting with excitement) I know, that’s the twist!

The meeting then went one to discuss an upcoming live action / CGI Smurf movie involving an interdimensional portal and an abusive Father.

The writer’s strike has really messed up Hollywood.

Just wanted to share that.

Sure, they could stay true to the popular tv show and get an Asian actor to play the part, but, dude, Will Smith. He’s, like, so totally dreamy and ladies love him. He’ll revitalize Kato. They can change his back story as well. Instead of Britt Reid aka Green Hornet saving him in the “Far East”, he could save him from an inner city gang. Most likely in Compton. It’ll be so touching or, rather, dope as the kids say. Kids still say that, right? Whatever. Why didn’t anyone think of this before? They should do this to all movies. Like, that Sex and the City movie should have starred Britney Spears and instead of wearing designer clothes and talking about sex, they should have just filmed her sitting, eating KFC, scratching her ass and burping. What a twist!

A day after her sister Jamie Lynn gave birth to a baby girl, a serious-looking Britney Spears returned to Los Angeles on Friday to a crush of rowdy paparazzi at the airport.

After the group – consisting of Spears, assistant Brett, father Jamie and bodyguards – made their way down a terminal escalator, Jamie Spears pushed photographers out of the way. Britney, wearing sunglasses, was bumped several times.

Hours earlier, the pop singer gave a tearful goodbye to family at the New Orleans airport after being on hand for the birth of her niece Maddie Briann. On the plane, Spears kept to herself in first class on the Delta flight, which also included celebrity passenger Amanda Bynes.

“Britney didn’t seem happy and was mostly resting,” says a Meredth Wood, a fellow passenger. “She kept her sunglasses on for most of the flight.”
