‘Friends’ feature reports news to Lisa Kudrow, starring in ‘Kabluey,’ Flanigan hopes for more character development on ‘Stargate Atlantis’

Posted on 26 June 2008 by JoyCeleb

Reports on the internet and in print that Courteney Cox Arquette is bent on getting a big-screen “Friends” movie made on the heels of “Sex and the City’s” success as a feature – and that everyone but Jennifer Aniston is on board – come as news to Lisa Kudrow.

“As soon as we wrapped, there were rumors about a movie — started by I don’t know who – but they’ve never been true,” says the former Friend Phoebe.  “The only thing I heard: it would have to be done by the people who created the show, and no one has made them interested enough to write it.”

As far as her own interest?  “I think it would be so fun to be with all those people again, but our show was not like ‘Sex and the City,’ which was a single camera, filmic show anyway.  Ours was multi-camera, in front of a live audience.  It’s a completely different feel.

You’d have to bring the tone down, and I don’t know how it would be.  I’ll just stay open.”

Kudrow has a full plate without a “Friends” movie, including several independent features in the can and a film to make this fall with Jeff Daniels. First up: she stars in the July-opening limited release dramedy “Kabluey,” playing a soldier’s wife who is trying to keep things going on the home front while he’s in Iraq – and makes the mistake of allowing her brother-in-law to become her kids’ nanny.

It’s from first-time filmmaker Scott Prendergast, who also plays the bad babysitter based on his own experiences.

Referring to her short-lived but acclaimed HBO series, she says, “One of the writers on ‘The Comeback,’ Heather Morgan, knew Scott and she told me, ‘This guy who used to be in the Groundlings program and is really talented — he loves our show!’  She was so excited.  That meant a lot to her because she really respected this guy and his taste.”  Years passed, then along came “Kabluey.”  “When I read the script, I thought he had a unique, interesting voice,” says Lisa.  “He’s so good!”

THE VIDEOLAND VIEW: The fifth season of “Stargate Atlantis” launches July 11 — with several cast changes, including a shift from starring to recurring status for Amanda Tapping, and Robert Picardo essentially taking her place as the mission leader on the Sci Fi series.  This “could be” a transitional year, agrees the show’s wryly witty star, Joe Flanigan.  “I’ve been tempered by my experience not to make any bold statements.  It’s definitely been a different experience for us with the changes. The storylines seem to be a little more sophisticated.”  But he can’t talk about them.  Offers Flainigan, “I’ll give you one secret:  I don’t die.”

Flanigan does say, “I’d like to see a little more exploration of my character. They’re kind of working on a couple of ideas we could possibly do.  I certainly don’t feel the well is dry in terms of continuing to make these characters interesting.  Still, there’s no doubt about it – the challenge of keeping a character dynamic through a number of seasons is a real one.  In the genre of science fiction maybe less so, because you’re dealing with big external threats and bizarre situations,” he says.

“Luckily, we all like each other and keep each other sane, which is a major plus,” he adds.  “If you’re going to spend this much time on a project, you’d better enjoy the people you’re working with.”

ANOTHER DAY JOB HEARD FROM: John O’Hurley of “Dancing With the Stars,” “Family Feud,” dog show and commercial renown has developed a professional life for himself outside the entertainment realm — picking up where former “Monty Python” star John Cleese left off by creating up-to-date instructional business videos.

“There hasn’t been a celebrity driven business-oriented piece of instructional communication since John Cleese did this back in the mid 80’s.  I studied his business model, quite frankly,” O’Hurley tells us.  ”We premiered our first video called ‘Love Your Customer’ and we’ve been told there’s nothing like it in the business.  This will be the first of many that I do.”

Yes, don’t let his stint in those tight “DWTS” pants fool you!  ”I have a strong business presence because I own six companies,” says O’Hurley, “so I think I know what I talk about.”

FIELD OF SCREAMS: There’ve already been more than seven films made from, or inspired by, Stephen King’s “Children of the Corn” — some of which the author has pointedly disavowed — with stars ranging from Charlize Theron and Naomi Watts to Stacy Keach and Eva Mendes, to Ahmet Zappa and Karen Black.  So of course it’s time for another remake!  The latest “Children of the Corn” is scheduled to start shooting in August, from horror producer Donald Borchers (“Leprechaun 2,” “Voodoo,” etc.) Casting is underway.

Charlize Theron looked amazing at the Paris premiere of Hancock yesterday. That dress was very revealing and yet she makes it look classy.

Will Smith shocked Theron while on the set of Hancock when he slapped her face!

“He tried to fake slap me one time, but the fake one just didn’t happen. We’re still debating this one. I think he just hit me! But Will claims I leaned into his hand and that’s how it happened. I was so shocked! I was like, ‘He just slapped me!’” Contactmusic quoted her as saying. “But he said, ‘I did not slap you. I had my hand there and you turned into it,’” she added.

Theron, however, insisted that the incident did not sour their relationship. “We’re just like kids, it’s so much fun. He’s not a woman beater!” she said.

Charlize Theron at the Hancock Movie Premiere in Paris

Charlize Theron Hancock Premiere in Paris

Charlize Theron has been voted one of the sexiest women alive and it’s easy to see. Charlize took time out of her busy schedule to attend the Hancock movie premiere in Paris.

I’m really looking forward to seeing this movie and not just because Will Smith is a good actor. It’s a movie about a guy drunk off his ass! I mean come on who wouldn’t want to see a super hero drinking booze all the time and rip a city apart due to his drunkenness? I’m gonna try and sneak me a couple of flasks of whiskey in the theater and see how drunk I can get by the end of the movie!

Charlize Theron’s 2008 GQ Pics

Charlize Theron’s 2008 GQ Pics

Charlize Theron is featured in GQ magazine for July 2008 — and the photos are both sexy and classy! Of course, isn’t that the mission statement that Charlize Theron lives by, sexy and classy? I especially like the black and white photos — and the photographers over at GQ do a wonderful job.

And Charlize may be featured half-clothed in these photos, but the actress also slams attention-seeking celebrities, calling them “sad.” She went on to say in her interview with GQ:

“It comes across as this really sad need for approval. I’ve heard people make comments like, ‘You don’t really want to be in the tabloids but you need to be for your career.’ They believe it’s actually important. It’s not. It’s ugly.”

Charlize Theron impresses with just plain folks behavior

Posted on 18 May 2008 by JoyCeleb

Sounds like Oscar-winning actress Charlize Theron certainly hasn’t let her megastar status go to her head. “She drove to New Mexico because she had her, like, 50-year-old dog with her and couldn’t fly,” reports Jennifer Lawrence, who plays the troubled teen version of Theron’s character in “Babel” screenwriter Guillermo Arriaga’s upcoming directorial debut “The Burning Plain.” “She didn’t have any assistant drive, she drove down herself. She stayed in just a normal hotel room, no suite or anything which made me feel like a diva cause I’m staying in ‘the apartment.’ She waits in line, she eats with the crew… She is the most real and down to earth person I’ve ever met. I just love her so much. And she is funny, just hilarious. She has a mouth on her that could make a grip blush. There isn’t a sentence that comes out of her mouth that doesn’t have the ‘F’ word in it.”

Lawrence — who’s back shooting the second season of TBS’ sitcom “The Bill Engvall Show” returning June 12, on which she plays the oldest child — admits it was a little intimidating having to do her thing in front of Theron at first. “She had to play me as an older person, so it was like no pressure or anything right? You’re just setting the lead for Charlize Theron to follow you. So she was there on the set watching and studying me.” She adds of Theron’s transition, “I don’t even know how to describe how incredible it is. The way she did every movement, every facial expression I didn’t even know I did… she like did it perfectly. I’ve never seen anything like it. I was just in awe.”

THE INDIE EYE: “CSI” regular Marg Helgenberger reports we get to see a different side of her in the upcoming indie film, “Columbus Day” with Val Kilmer and Wilmer Valderrama. “It’s a great part quite different than Catherine Willows,” says Helgenberger, referring to the crime scene analyst she’s played for years on “CSI.” She plays Kilmer’s ex-wife in the film and says, “It’s always fun to have something to play other than competent and strong. I mean, I certainly love all those qualities, but it was refreshing to play somebody whose life was simpler. She wasn’t a simple person, but just a really good person trying to make ends meet.”

Helgenberger says “Columbus Day” is a heist film that all takes place in one day, “but there are all these intimate relationships throughout the whole movie that bring Val’s character around full circle. He pulls off the heist in the beginning of the film. Then through all these various phone calls he makes to people he cares about while trying to sell whatever he’s got in the briefcase, he realizes the importance of the people in his life and where his priorities lie.”

KNOCKOUT: Jason Lewis reports he did “a lot of boxing training” to get into proper pugilistic form for the upcoming “The Pardon” film in which Jaime King plays Toni Jo Heny, the only woman to die in the electric chair in Louisiana.  However, he found that his fighting technique “didn’t apply” when he got before the cameras.  He recalls being told by the cinematographer, “’That was a great punch.  I can’t see it.’  Real fighting is quick and tight, and movie fighting is big and slow.”  The period film has the “Sex and the City” hunk playing “a guy who’s basically a drifter and a petty criminal, who’s gotten involved in some bad s— club fighting in barns.  She’s a hooker.  They fall in love and she ends up trying to help him and gets in trouble with the law.  The press fell for her because she was such a knockout, and the idea of executing a woman was so stunning at that time.”

The team worked in Shreveport, with the actors toiling in wool outfits and other less-than-comfortable period clothes in sweltering heat.  Notes Lewis, “One of the drivers I got friendly with was a cool older dude who’d grown up around that area.  He remembered the whole thing when it happened.  ‘They moved the electric chair place to place,’” he said.  “It was a really heavy thing.”

GHOST SHIPS: Look for Jennifer Love Hewitt’s “Ghost Whisperer” to encounter otherworldly sorts aboard the famously haunted cruise ship the Queen Mary when her supernaturally popular series sails into its fourth season next fall.  Writer-producer Mark Perry, who’s penning the episode, knows his cruise ships – especially the subject of his current PBS documentary, “SS United States: Lady in Waiting.”

“Most people don’t know about the SS United States,” admits Perry, a long-time aficionado of the grand cruise vessels of bygone times.  In the SS United States is a saga of New York — and America — of the early 1950s, “a time when ‘Made in America’ really meant something.  She was the fastest in her class ever built in this country, an ambassador wherever she went.”  While many ships of the era were scrapped, “Miraculously, the SS United States has survived, though gutted,” he says.  The vessel’s now a ghost ship, sitting in harbor in Philadelphia, owned by Norwegian Cruise Line, which has tentative plans to renovate it.  Failing that, Perry says, the SS United States Conservancy organization hopes to bring it back to New York Harbor, resplendent in its full red, white and blue glory, as a museum/hotel/convention center.  “It would be a wonderful complement to the Statue of Liberty,” he says. “Lady in Waiting,” which is also coming out on DVD, includes never before seen archival footage and interviews with such former passengers as Walter Cronkite, LeRoy Neiman, and maritime historian William H. Miller.

Marisa Miller Tops Maxim’s Hot 100

Posted on 17 May 2008 by JoyCeleb

Marisa Miller is the hottest in all the land!

Marisa Miller becomes the first to debut in the number one position on Maxim Magazine’s Hot 100 list, which was just released this week. And oddly enough, Marisa had previously never been included in the Hot 100 list, but this was an exceptional year for the model. Not only did she grace the cover of Sports Illustrated’s Swimsuit edition, she was added to and took home the number one spot on Maxim’s Hot list.

Marisa was followed by Scarlett Johansson, Jessica Biel, Eva Longoria Parker, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Elisha Cuthbert, Eva Mendes, Christina Aguilera, Lindsay Lohan and Ashley Tisdale to round out the top 10.

Actress Megan Fox, who was FHM’s Sexiest Woman in the World in 2008, was only garnered the number 16 position. Other women who were listed are Rihanna, Beyonce, Britney Spears, Jessica Alba, Hilary Duff, Heidi Klum, Jessica Simpson, Charlize Theron, Gabrielle Union, Mariah Carey, Cameron Diaz and Mischa Barton.

And pulling off a trifecta for “The Hills” stars, Heidi Montag, Lauren Conrad and Audrina Patridge all made the Maxim Top 100 list, in addition to everyone’s favorite reality star and MySpace queen, Tila Tequila. However, congratulations are in order for Marisa Miller!

Girls Aloud Gets All Tangled Up!

Posted on 16 May 2008 by JoyCeleb

Ok what is it with these horrible looking purple dresses lately? First it was Charlize Theron and now it’s Natalie Portman. I know it’s Hollywood and you want to make a big impression by wearing something different, but come on!

I mean seriously, it looks as if Natalie grabbed the first piece of purple cloth she could find and thought to herself…”This is is it!” Hell my purple bath robe at home looks better than this. At least it has some pink polka dots!
