New Oscar Rules Limits Song Noms To 2 Per Film

Posted on 20 June 2008 by JoyCeleb

Last time around, the Oscar songs category was three times “Enchanted” — a trick that may never be repeated.

The number of original songs that can be nominated from a single movie will now be limited to two, according to a rule change by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The academy’s governors approved the change late Tuesday.

Last year, Disney’s “Enchanted” had three titles in contention: “Happy Working Song,” “So Close” and “That’s How You Know.” The winner of best original song: “Falling Slowly,” from “Once.”

The new rule would also have applied in 2007, when three songs from “Dreamgirls” were nominated. That year, the Oscar went to “I Need to Wake Up” from “An Inconvenient Truth.”

Ashley Tisdale shows her navel

Posted on 04 June 2008 by JoyCeleb

Ashley Tisdale and Jared Murillo looked like a perfect couple running together. Ashley looked good in her exercise gear. You know what they say about couples who do everything together – they stay together.

Ashley and Jared were rumored to be in Salt Lake City, Utah. She had to finish her movie, High School Musical 3, with Disney. The couple kept a low profile and avoided speaking to the press to reduce rumors and gossip mongering on their relationship.

New Miley Cyrus Pics Controversy

New Miley Cyrus Pics Controversy

Teen sensation Miley Cyrus has been caught up in a fresh photo scandal after saucy shots of a girl, who resembles her, stripping have appeared online.

The snaps are similar to those which appeared on website MySpace.com last month, and come just weeks after the 15 year old was forced to defend her decision to pose topless in a bedsheet for a Vanity Fair shoot.

In the new pictures, a girl bearing an uncanny likeness to Cyrus holds a t-shirt up with her teeth, showing a bare stomach and red panties.

According to blog Oceanup.com the snapshots were emailed to pop star Nick Jonas when the pair dated last year.

If the shots prove to be genuine, the pictures will further compromise her image as a child-friendly star, and pile pressure on her employers at Disney to address her penchant for posing provocatively.

Although Cyrus apologised for the Vanity Fair photoshoot, she refused to accept she shouldn’t pose in private snaps.

After the last set of pictures appeared on MySpace, she said, “For me, I was like, ‘It’s not a big deal.’ But they got spread around. Like someone copied ad pasted and said, ‘Oh my God, look at this, and blah blah blah.’”

Disney’s Next Miley Cyrus

Posted on 23 May 2008 by JoyCeleb

Is 15 year old Selena Gomez the next Miley Cyrus?

Miley-Cyrus

Selena-Gomez

Selena Gomez, Disney’s latest teen prodigy, was born in New York City on July 22, 1992 but raised in Grand Prairie, Texas. She began her acting career at the young age of 7, when she landed her first big role as “Gianna” on Barney and Friends. Selena was let go from Barney after just two seasons, but credits the show for teaching her everything she knows about acting. In an interview with People magazine Selena stated that,

I was very shy when I was little. I didn’t know what ‘camera right’ was. I didn’t know what blocking was. I learned everything I know from Barney.

When Selena was 12 years old she was discovered by Disney in a nation wide Disney talent search. In 2006 she did a guest appearance on two episodes of The Suite Life of Zack and Cody and in 2007 she was on two episodes of Hannah Montana. In October 2007 Selena landed a starring role for Disney as “Alex Russo” on Wizards of Waverly Place. Selena has also recorded three songs for Walt Disney Records and in 2008 she released her “Cruella De Vil” music video for the February premiere of 101 Dalmatians.

Selena’s latest role , Mary, is the main character in her upcoming DVD movie Another Cinderella Story and this September she will co-star with, her best friend, Demi Lovato in Princess Protection Program.

People magazine sat down with Selena’s mom, Mandy Teefey, for a little Q&A on keeping Selena Grounded.

People: On Her Chores

Mandy: She has to do her own laundry. If she cooks, I clean. If I cook, she cleans. She has to help feed the dogs. There are really no set chores. We all just pitch in when needed.

People: On Her Curfew

Mandy: It depends on who she is with and where they are going, but 90 percent of the time it’s 11:30 p.m. She never goes to movie premieres, wrap up parties or anything related to the business without a parent. Period. That rule is not changing until she is 21!

People: On Growing Up In Hollywood

Mandy: I was never really concerned about Selena. She is a very headstrong and driven girl. I really haven’t changed any rules for her. If she wasn’t allowed to do it in Texas, she’s not allowed to do it here. Selena knows who she is, and I am around to make sure she doesn’t change.

Like we haven’t heard that before. Curfews, allowances, and chores, all the moms say the same thing and all the stars turn out the same way. Have they come out with a Raising a Child Star for

Miley Cyrus’ underwear picture scandal

Posted on 21 May 2008 by JoyCeleb

Hana Montana Scandel
Miley is at it again, taking pictures of herself in a scandalous manner. The 15 year old Hannah Montana star has pictures of herself floating around on the Internet yet again. This time by herself and wearing nothing but a shirt and underwear.

You can’t look at these pictures and tell me that she probably hasn’t already taken worse ones than these. This girl needs her parents to step in right quick before things get any worse for the promising singer/actress.

It seems that the Disney family breeds a bunch of scandalous girls. Apparently, it started with Annette Funicello, as a big sex symbol back in the day, than Christina with her chaps, Britney showing off her “Britney,” Vanessa Hudgens and her naked pics, and now Miley and her questionable pics.

I don’t really understand it all. I mean these girls are on the top of the world. Such pics to raise popularity really is not necessary…

Narnia’s’ young cast gets a world-wide workout

Posted on 17 May 2008 by JoyCeleb

The young cast of “Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian” are getting a royal workout as they traipse around the globe to promote the feature that opens today (5/16)  “We just got back from Mexico City.  We go to Japan Saturday, then back to L.A., then Israel, Prague, Paris, London, Madrid and Munich,” reports William Moseley, a.k.a. Peter Pevensie, a.k.a., King Peter the Magnificent of Narnia.  His schedule goes into July.

“But I’m absolutely fine, ready to rock and roll.  The promotion is actually fairly glamorous; you’re treated wonderfully and you get to stay in nice places.  I always find a couple of hours here and there to look around.  It’s pretty intense — but it’s fantastic that Disney and Walden Media are so happy with the movie they want to push it this much.”

For Moseley, the sequel meant stepping up his acting, since his character shows more maturity and dimension – “struggling with his insecurities.  He almost can’t believe that he was this high king once.”  He’s also dealing with a loss of faith, as he finds himself unable to see the lion Aslan, the spiritual ruler of Narnia, “and he becomes this ego-driven young man, kind of dimension.

“I worked with an acting coach, Sheila Gray, for three and a half months in New York before starting…I worked my guts out,” he says. The handsome 20-year-old, who’s the subject of internet fan sites set up by young female admirers, seems to be taking fame in stride.  “I love it when people say they like our work – especially children.  I care much more about the opinion of children than adults because they’re so honest and genuine.  If you’ve got them on your side, you’re all right.”

THE VIDEOLAND VIEW: “America’s Most Wanted” host, John Walsh, feels very proud that his show has captured its 1,000th fugitive – a landmark that’s being recognized in a special broadcast on Saturday (5/17) — but the host admits he would trade it all to have his son Adam back.

“I would trade everything in two seconds to go back to having Adam alive and to be a hotel developer and be in that business that I was,” says Walsh, who lost his six-year-old son Adam in 1981 when he was abducted from a Sears in Florida and killed.  ”You look back and see how heartbreaking and life-changing it was, but the positive side of it is, it gave me a huge way to make sure that Adam didn’t die in vain.  I think the celebrity and the hard, hard work involved in this show gives me a great platform to change things, so despite seeing the worst of society, I also get to see the best.”

Having reached such a huge milestone has cemented the “Most Wanted” team’s purpose, Walsh says.  ”We were the first reality show and people said it will never last - they’ll never catch one guy.  It’s amazing after 20 years that we’re still chugging along so strong.  No one could have ever predicted that the show would still be as popular as it is and as effective,” he notes.  ”Now we’ve got 1,000 criminals caught.  It only took us 20 years, but we made it.”

THE BIG-SCREEN SCENE: Though British star Colin Firth co-stars in “Mamma Mia,” one of the hottest anticipated summer movies, he’s most excited about what he considers a little gem of a film upcoming from “A Mighty Heart” filmmaker Michael Winterbottom.

“It’s called ‘Genova’  and I think there is no director more interesting right now,” says Firth, who stars in the film with Catherine Keener.. “It’s about a family in America. The mother dies in a car accident in the very beginning and the father takes their two daughters to Italy to get away from the scene of great sadness and give them a new life for awhile. I don’t know if you’ve seen ‘A Mighty Heart’ with Angelina Jolie, but Winterbottom shoots in an incredibly, beautiful way. I’ve seen ‘Genova’ twice now and I think it’s one of the best pieces I’ve ever done.”

STRANGE: Katherine Waterston, whose performance in the current “The Babysitters” has garnered lots of attention, recently wrapped the independent feature, “The Factory” – which has eerie parallels with the horrifying recent headline story about an Austrian woman held captive in a dungeon for decades.  Says Katherine, younger daughter of Sam Waterston, “It’s really grim.  I play a pregnant paraplegic girl who has been kidnapped and spent over three years in a basement.  She’s suffering from Stockholm syndrome, so she thinks her digs are luxurious, even though they’re not at all.”  The film, starring John Cusack as the cop who’s chasing after the serial killer suspect – frantically, once his own daughter goes missing — does have a tie to reality, Katherine says.  “It’s based on a case in Pennsylvania in the 1970s, an extreme right wing guy who wanted to start a family, but whose values went wrong.”

Miley Cyrus Approached by Playboy

Posted on 13 May 2008 by JoyCeleb

Hugh Hefner is quite the dirty old man! The founder of “Playboy” magazine has extended an offer to Disney star Miley Cyrus to appear in the pages his magazine, but noted that the 15-year-old would have to wait until she hit the legal age. I’m not an expert on Miley Cyrus, but didn’t she make like $17 million this last year? I’m thinking she is not going to be signing up for this gig anytime soon.

Hugh Hefner said of the singing Miley:

“She would be welcomed in the magazine. Very pretty lady.”

Did Hannah Jump or Was She Pushed?

Posted on 28 April 2008 by JoyCeleb

In a move that shocked parents and the Disney corporation’s accountants, teen star Miley Cyrus, a.k.a. Hannah Montana, has posed seminude for Vanity Fair’s June issue. In the photo, by celebrity photographer Annie Leibovitz, Cyrus appears bare-backed, with a blanket clutched to her chest. (No actual Montanas were exposed.)

In the article—and in Vanity Fair’s account of Cyrus’ seeing the pictures before they were published—Cyrus seems delighted with the pix (”‘really artsy,’ but not ‘in a skanky way’”). After the word broke and controversy ensued, however, Cyrus said that she regretted taking the photo (which, she said in a statement, “was supposed to be ‘artistic’”) and Disney blasted Vanity Fair for taking advantage of Cyrus.

So which is it?

It is impossible to know the mind of a child star, of course, but every indication I have of Cyrus is that she is an almost frighteningly canny professional, handled by other frighteningly canny professionals—including her father, Billy Ray Cyrus, who costars on Montana and helps manage her career.

It is thus a little hard to entirely buy Disney’s outraged spin on the photo: “Unfortunately, as the article suggests, a situation was created to deliberately manipulate a 15-year-old in order to sell magazines”—as if Leibovitz lured a doe-eyed Cyrus into a van with the promise of a rainbow lollipop. Cyrus is a 15-year-old, and that statement may divert the anger of tweens’ parents from Cyrus to the big bad magazine, but she is not your average 15-year-old. (To Cyrus’ credit, by the way, her statement, unlike Disney’s, does not try to shunt all the blame off on other people.)

But that doesn’t mean that this was all a fiendishly clever publicity stunt that Cyrus engineered down to the finest detail in advance, either. Leibovitz does have a reputation of persuading famous people, mainly grown adults, to pose for photos they should perhaps not pose for—as good celebrity photogs do. (She also gets them to pose for fantastically flattering photographs, which is why stars want to work with her.) So it’s plausible that, as Cyrus tells VF, “You can’t say no to Annie. She’s so cute. She gets this puppy-dog look, and you’re like, OK.” It’s plausible that the photos came out racier than she expected, or that she simply misjudged how they would be received. Maybe.

Still: Cyrus knew what she was wearing, or not wearing, as did the handlers who were apparently there to handle her. This was exactly not a surprise papparrazzi assault. Rather, Cyrus is now repudiating, in a stage-managed publicity statement, her appearance in a stage-managed publicity photo. The truth, in these situations, is often somewhere between the brilliant publicity stunt and the dastardly media assault: part of being a great star is simply taking the situation you find yourself in and spinning it to your advantage.

And Cyrus could be doing that brilliantly well right now. The VF photo—which, after all, is PG-rated and not in the league of a leaked nude shot on the Internet—may ruffle some feathers, but she well knows that she’ll eventually have to transition from being a child star to a plain old grown-up star. You can do that well, like Justin Timberlake, or like Britney Spears for a while after her teenybopper years. You can do it poorly, like Lindsay Lohan or Britney Spears now. But unless you’re going to retire or go the Ron Howard change-of-career route, you’ve got to do it eventually.

Hannah Montana, in other words, is too smart to believe that she can be Hannah Montana forever. She’s already been engaged in a calculated effort to stop being identified solely as “Hannah Montana,” and to gradually roll out the public persona of, well, herself; on her concert tour last year, she performed part of her act as Hannah and part as Miley.

Of course, that doesn’t mean she has to stop being Hannah Montana tomorrow, or this year. But it does mean, at some point, gradually getting her audience used to seeing her as older. Now, I am not saying that nearly flashing one’s ahem-ahems to Vanity Fair is the only way to do that. But it is one way. (As is the circulation of the pix of an underwear-clad Cyrus that appeared online last week.) And her interests and the Disney Channel’s interests are not always going to be the same.

In the meantime, her reject-and-denounce statement on the photo—casting herself, Montana-like, as the down-home naif who made the mistake of posing for an “artistic” shot—may be enough to get fans and parents to excuse her and for the whole thing to blow over. If it’s not, well, she’s still projected to be worth $1 billion by the time she hits 18. How’s your 401k doing? Miley Cyrus may need a blanket, but I wouldn’t bother handing her a handkerchief just now.
