Beckham Fan Gets Too Close For Comfort

Posted on 10 June 2008 by JoyCeleb

LOS ANGELES, Calif. –A world full of fans would love to give David Beckham a hug.

But as one overzealous spectator found out, a quick embrace with Becks can come at a price.

During Beckham’s game with the Los Angeles Galaxy against the Colorado Rapids on Saturday in Los Angeles, one fan made his way from the stands to the field, where he sprinted towards the soccer superstar and quickly gave him a hug in the middle of the game.

However, their moment together would prove to be short-lived as Beckham’s teammates quickly intervened.

While Beckham, to his credit, remained relatively calm, fellow Galaxy member Chris Klein (no, not the actor) sprinted to Becks’ aid, separating the ambitious hugger from his object of affection.

The fan, wearing a black t-shirt and jeans, fell to the field as Klein stood over him screaming, before security came over and escorted the unidentified fan from the field.

And for anyone actually interested in the game, the Galaxy beat the Rapids 3-2.

Narnia’s’ young cast gets a world-wide workout

Posted on 17 May 2008 by JoyCeleb

The young cast of “Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian” are getting a royal workout as they traipse around the globe to promote the feature that opens today (5/16)  “We just got back from Mexico City.  We go to Japan Saturday, then back to L.A., then Israel, Prague, Paris, London, Madrid and Munich,” reports William Moseley, a.k.a. Peter Pevensie, a.k.a., King Peter the Magnificent of Narnia.  His schedule goes into July.

“But I’m absolutely fine, ready to rock and roll.  The promotion is actually fairly glamorous; you’re treated wonderfully and you get to stay in nice places.  I always find a couple of hours here and there to look around.  It’s pretty intense — but it’s fantastic that Disney and Walden Media are so happy with the movie they want to push it this much.”

For Moseley, the sequel meant stepping up his acting, since his character shows more maturity and dimension – “struggling with his insecurities.  He almost can’t believe that he was this high king once.”  He’s also dealing with a loss of faith, as he finds himself unable to see the lion Aslan, the spiritual ruler of Narnia, “and he becomes this ego-driven young man, kind of dimension.

“I worked with an acting coach, Sheila Gray, for three and a half months in New York before starting…I worked my guts out,” he says. The handsome 20-year-old, who’s the subject of internet fan sites set up by young female admirers, seems to be taking fame in stride.  “I love it when people say they like our work – especially children.  I care much more about the opinion of children than adults because they’re so honest and genuine.  If you’ve got them on your side, you’re all right.”

THE VIDEOLAND VIEW: “America’s Most Wanted” host, John Walsh, feels very proud that his show has captured its 1,000th fugitive – a landmark that’s being recognized in a special broadcast on Saturday (5/17) — but the host admits he would trade it all to have his son Adam back.

“I would trade everything in two seconds to go back to having Adam alive and to be a hotel developer and be in that business that I was,” says Walsh, who lost his six-year-old son Adam in 1981 when he was abducted from a Sears in Florida and killed.  ”You look back and see how heartbreaking and life-changing it was, but the positive side of it is, it gave me a huge way to make sure that Adam didn’t die in vain.  I think the celebrity and the hard, hard work involved in this show gives me a great platform to change things, so despite seeing the worst of society, I also get to see the best.”

Having reached such a huge milestone has cemented the “Most Wanted” team’s purpose, Walsh says.  ”We were the first reality show and people said it will never last - they’ll never catch one guy.  It’s amazing after 20 years that we’re still chugging along so strong.  No one could have ever predicted that the show would still be as popular as it is and as effective,” he notes.  ”Now we’ve got 1,000 criminals caught.  It only took us 20 years, but we made it.”

THE BIG-SCREEN SCENE: Though British star Colin Firth co-stars in “Mamma Mia,” one of the hottest anticipated summer movies, he’s most excited about what he considers a little gem of a film upcoming from “A Mighty Heart” filmmaker Michael Winterbottom.

“It’s called ‘Genova’  and I think there is no director more interesting right now,” says Firth, who stars in the film with Catherine Keener.. “It’s about a family in America. The mother dies in a car accident in the very beginning and the father takes their two daughters to Italy to get away from the scene of great sadness and give them a new life for awhile. I don’t know if you’ve seen ‘A Mighty Heart’ with Angelina Jolie, but Winterbottom shoots in an incredibly, beautiful way. I’ve seen ‘Genova’ twice now and I think it’s one of the best pieces I’ve ever done.”

STRANGE: Katherine Waterston, whose performance in the current “The Babysitters” has garnered lots of attention, recently wrapped the independent feature, “The Factory” – which has eerie parallels with the horrifying recent headline story about an Austrian woman held captive in a dungeon for decades.  Says Katherine, younger daughter of Sam Waterston, “It’s really grim.  I play a pregnant paraplegic girl who has been kidnapped and spent over three years in a basement.  She’s suffering from Stockholm syndrome, so she thinks her digs are luxurious, even though they’re not at all.”  The film, starring John Cusack as the cop who’s chasing after the serial killer suspect – frantically, once his own daughter goes missing — does have a tie to reality, Katherine says.  “It’s based on a case in Pennsylvania in the 1970s, an extreme right wing guy who wanted to start a family, but whose values went wrong.”

David Archuleta Photos from Salt Lake City

Posted on 16 May 2008 by JoyCeleb

If you are a David Archuleta fan, then you probably watched “American Idol” on Wednesday and saw them take a trip home with him to Salt Lake City, Utah. As moving as this trip home with David was, and as consistent as this kid has been over the season, something about him is totally off. The few times I have caught the show (OK, I watch it religously and even forums the forums), David Archuleta has seemed completely forums.

He really does have talent, but it also seems like he’s really well “baked.” You know, graaaass maaaaan. I’m not saying he’s a drug user, but he needs to wake up and smell the f#&king coffee! Actually, it might help if he took a couple puffs. But on the bright side, this dude has 13-year old girls throwing themselves at him and he’s still got a year before it’s not legal anymore.

But forget him, vote for David Cook — because he deserves to win!

Jennifer Garner Laughs Off Baby Question

Posted on 30 April 2008 by JoyCeleb

Jennifer Garner appreciates her fans – even when they ask the tough questions. Asked, “When are you going to have another [child]?” during a break in filming This Side of Truth last Friday, the 36-year-old actress laughed off the unexpected query. “Sometime,” she replied. “I don’t know. I have to think about that one.”

Garner – who was in Lowell, Mass., shooting the flick (costarring Tina Fey and Ricky Gervais) – made sure to spend quality time with fans of all ages. But she paid special attention to her youngest admirers.

“I have to say hi to the girls,” she said, heading over to sign autographs for a crowd. She made sure all the children got some face time.

Ben Affleck’s other half asked one little girl, “Are you a swimmer?” before revealing, “I was a swimmer when I was your age.”

Other young fans asked about daughter Violet, 2. “She’s good,” replied Garner, who fended off compliments about her appearance with some good-natured modesty. She joked to one admirer: “That’s what five hours of hair and makeup will do for you!”

Uma Thurman stalk terror

Posted on 30 April 2008 by JoyCeleb

A terrifed Uma Thurman shook and cried, “Look at this, look at this!” after an alleged stalker tried to force his way into her movie trailer during a SoHo film shoot, her wardrobe assistant told a Manhattan jury Monday. “Her hands were shaking, she was soaked,” Joseph La Corte testified in the stalking-and-harassment trial of lovesick fan Jack Jordan. “She couldn’t sit still. She didn’t want to get dressed.”

Uma Thurman stalk terrorLa Corte said two burly Teamsters prevented Jordan from barging into Thurman’s trailer in November 2005. La Corte then put the shaken actress into an SUV for the one-block ride to where she was filming “My Super Ex-Girlfriend.”

The film is about a spurned woman who stalks her boyfriend.

The 6-foot beauty is scheduled to testify today - her 38th birthday - along with family members in what the prosecution calls Jordan’s two-year campaign of “emotional blackmail.”

The University of Chicago literature grad even threatened suicide if she didn’t date him, Assistant Manhattan District Attorney Colleen Walsh told the court.

“Tell the defendant, ‘Enough is enough,’” Walsh declared. “The price of fame is not this.”

The prosecutor said Jordan also appeared at Thurman’s Greenwich Village home, where she lives with her two children, and rang her doorbell. One of Thurman’s employees came out and found him sitting on her steps, she said.

Earlier, Lisa Grondin, Thurman’s former personal assistant, told of the actress’s distress - even taking up smoking again - after receiving creepy postcards from Jordan.

In one note, Jordan, 37, wrote the “Kill Bill” actress: “My hands should be on your body at all times.”

“The contents made her nervous-scared,” Grondin testified.

Jordan’s lawyer, George Vomvolakis, said his client is a former mental patient. His actions may be creepy, but they are not criminal, the lawyer told the jury, adding that Jordan “does not think the way you and I think. He doesn’t know the boundaries you and I know. He thinks it’s romantic.”
