Michelle Williams feuding with Heath Ledger’s family

Posted on 25 June 2008 by JoyCeleb

Michelle Williams will be boycotting the upcoming premiere of the new Batman movie Dark Knight. Heath Ledger’s family will be flying in from Australia to attend, representing Heath. However according to the New York Post, the Ledgers and Williams are feuding over Heath’s will.

Part of the problem is that Ledger never updated it after he and Williams had daughter Matilda, now 2. His old will, written in 2003, had his father as the main beneficiary. However Matilda is supposed to be the beneficiary now, and the Ledgers have publicly stated that she will be taken care of. But Michelle has supposedly not gotten anything from the family yet, and is pretty upset.

HEATH Ledger’s father, Kim, mother, Emma, and other family members are flying in for the “Dark Knight” premiere on July 14 for what some are calling a “sort of tribute” to him - but don’t expect to see his ex, Michelle Williams, or daughter, Matilda. An insider said, “Michelle is furious with Heath’s family and threatening to boycott the premiere. Matilda is supposed to be the beneficiary of the will, but Michelle has seen nothing from them. Heath didn’t have much in cash, but there was a big house in LA and a back-end deal for ‘Dark Knight’ [that] could reap millions.”

Ledger’s will, made out in 2003 before Matilda was born, left everything to his father, mother and sisters. But Matilda is now considered the beneficiary, and Kim is the executor. Williams fears that by the time Matilda reaches 18 and can cash in on her inheritance, nothing will be left. Years ago, Kim’s brothers charged that he mismanaged their father’s estate, losing millions. A rep for Williams didn’t return repeated calls.

The issue of Kim Ledger’s mismanagement of his late father’s estate does appear to be a pretty legitimate concern, as all the money was lost and the estate ended up in debt. My first thought was that as an actress, you’d think Michelle Williams could afford to take care of Matilda just fine. But that’s really not the issue – Heath’s daughter has a right to what her father presumably would have left her.

Page Six doesn’t make it clear if Matilda is now supposed to be the beneficiary of the will legally or if it’s just that the Ledgers promised she would be. All of that said, it seems like the mature thing would be for Michelle to go to the premiere and try to keep relations friendly. It’s likely that Matilda will want to have a good relationship with Heath’s family as a way of staying connected to her dad. Hopefully both sides will work through their issues for that reason alone.

Michelle Williams: No Rift With Heath’s Family

Posted on 24 June 2008 by JoyCeleb

Michelle Williams: No Rift With Heath's Family | Michelle Williams (Actress)Michelle Williams is denying a report she’s missing the premiere of The Dark Knight because of tension with Heath Ledger’s family.

“The presumption that Michelle ever intended to attend The Dark Knight premiere is unfounded, but to say she is ‘boycotting’ due to a rift with Heath’s family is absurd,” Williams’s rep Mara Buxbaum said in a statement.

She added: “It is time to allow this family to go about their lives without this continued scrutiny and speculation.”

Ledger’s family confirmed that they would be flying from Perth, Western Australia to New York City to attend his premiere on July 14, just days before the six-month anniversary of the actor’s death. Ledger died on Jan. 22 of a prescription drug overdose at the age of 28.

Australian film organization creates Ledger scholarship

Posted on 11 June 2008 by JoyCeleb

Heath Ledger was known for giving aspiring Australian actors a hand in Hollywood. Now, an Australian film organization has established a scholarship fund in the late actor’s name to continue those efforts.

“There’s an entire tribe of Australians who have all benefited from his generosity,” said Susie Dobson, president of Australians in Film, or AiF. “This (scholarship) captures Heath’s spirit and serves our mission to help and celebrate Australian filmmakers.”

Ledger — who died at 28 of an accidental prescription drug overdose in January — had served as an ambassador for the film organization and its board wanted to honor him after his death, Dobson said.

Director Gregor Jordan announced the establishment of the Heath Ledger Scholarship Fund last week at AiF’s annual Breakthrough Awards, where he read a statement from Ledger’s father, Kim Ledger.

“Although reluctant to lend his name to anything commercial, we know Heath would be proud of his attachment to this scholarship,” Kim Ledger’s statement said. “This scholarship in part does what Heath has done personally during the last 10 years and supported financially or in kind many friends, Australian actors, singers, directors or writers seeking to ply their talents in the USA.”

Jordan also said that Michelle Williams, mother of Ledger’s daughter, “would be very proud and happy to be the first benefactor” of the scholarship fund.

The first recipient will be announced next year, Dobson said.

Crazy in love, Beyonce and Jay-Z tie the knot

Posted on 18 May 2008 by JoyCeleb

It appears that Jay-Z and Beyonce have finally tied the knot.

There was a swirl of activity Friday at the rap mogul’s Tribeca apartment. Delivery trucks funneled in and out of the building, dropping off silver candelabras and white flowers. A white tent was set up on the roof, and stars including Beyonce’s former Destiny’s Child bandmates, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams, along with Gwyneth Paltrow, were spotted arriving.

Mary J. Blige confirmed the nuptials to thousands of cheering hip-hop fans in North Carolina on Saturday.

“Congratulations to my man, Jay-Z, and my girl, B,” Blige told the crowd, dedicating her song “You’re All I Need” to the couple.

Rumors say the couple plan a coming-out party this week. On Friday, a swarm of media camped outside the building was in a state of frenzy, snapping and shouting at any sport-utility vehicle that drove down the cobblestone street.

The Web sites of celebrity magazines People and Us Weekly reported the couple married and threw a small but lavish party at the apartment Friday, citing unnamed sources who are friends of the pair. The Web sites reported their families attended the party.

The couple, who have apparently been dating for six years, have never publicly acknowledged they are together. Knowles, 26, and Jay-Z, 38, whose real name is Shawn Carter, have collaborated on the songs “03 Bonnie and Clyde” and “Crazy in Love.”

It’s been a big week for the hip-hop mogul. On Thursday, concert promoter Live Nation Inc. said it was in talks with Jay-Z over a potential business deal. The Los Angeles-based company stopped short of confirming published reports that the deal would give Live Nation a stake in virtually every aspect of Jay-Z’s career and land him a potential windfall in excess of $100 million.

A person familiar with the negotiations between Live Nation and Jay-Z told the Associated Press that the proposed 10-year deal was worth about $150 million and would cover three albums.
