Anne Hathaway’s Boyfriend Is Sick

Posted on 27 June 2008 by JoyCeleb

Anne Hathaway’s boyfriend sounds like a real winner.  Earlier this week Raffaello Follieri was arrested on money laundering, wire fraud, and basically living a six-figure lifestyle on everybody elses dime.

TMZ has also uncovered another scam, by which his foundation claims to hand out discount drug cards, which, of course, was discovered never took place.  Raffaello has also been admitted to a hospital today for a severe sinus infection.

This dude might go to jail for the rest of his life and he’s already whining about a sinus infection.  Wait until a dude leaves his DNA inside his rectum.

Below are photos of Anne Hathaway in the July issue of In Style Magazine.

Anne Hathaway’s Ex: Birthday Behind Bars?

Posted on 26 June 2008 by JoyCeleb

Anne Hathaway's Ex: Birthday Behind Bars? | Anne Hathaway

Instead of partying in Capri, Anne Hathaway’s ex-boyfriend Raffaello Follieri may spend his 30th birthday Friday behind bars on charges of wire fraud, conspiracy and money laundering.

Follieri remains in New York’s Metropolitan Correctional Center on $21 million bail. “We’re working on putting the bail together,” says his attorney Flora Edwards.
The Italian businessman reportedly had a big birthday bash planned on the jet-set island of Capri. Even if he does post bail, he will be confined to his home, with an electronic monitoring device and only be able to leave for medical, legal or religious reasons.

Meanwhile, Hathaway, 25, has been thousands of miles away: She promoted Get Smart in Mexico City on Wednesday and in Australia earlier in the week. She split with Follieri earlier this month, before his arrest Tuesday on charges he defrauded investors with a scheme to flip properties owned by the Roman Catholic Church.

Follieri’s next court date is a preliminary hearing scheduled for July 9, when a grand jury’s decision whether to indict him will be announced. A jury trial could be tough on Follieri, says legal expert David Berg, author of The Trial Lawyer: What it Takes to Win. “He has really taken advantage of a lot of people. To do it with the cloak of religion is despicable. I think a jury would be very hard on him.”

Says Berg: “The best advice one would give this man is to start returning the money as soon as humanly possible and just say it was a mistake. It was all a mistake.”

Anne Hathaway’s ex arrested on fraud and money laundering charges

Posted on 25 June 2008 by JoyCeleb

It looks like Anne Hathaway dumped her boyfriend of four years at just the right time. Italian “businessman” Raffaello Follieri, 29, was just arrested yesterday for charges of money laundering and wire fraud. He also told a whopper of a lie to an undercover agent that he was CFO of the Vatican and could get church land cheap:

Manhattan prosecutors say an Italian businessman who has been romantically linked to movie star Anne Hathaway has been arrested on wire fraud conspiracy and money laundering charges.

Raffaello Follieri is due in Manhattan federal court on Tuesday.

He is accused of falsely telling an investor that he had been appointed as the chief financial officer of the Vatican.

Authorities say he claimed that, as a result of that connection, he and others could obtain properties of the Catholic church in the United States at a substantial discount to fair market value.

Follieri runs a Catholic charity that claims its purpose is vaccinating children in the third world, but it sounds like it was just a front for a money laundering scheme. He was sued in 2007 and accused of embezzling millions from a charity organization he ran with billionaire Ron Burkle. That suit was settled out of court for a rumored $1.3 million. Follieri’s next brush with the law was after he bounced a check for $215,000 in March. The charges were dropped when he eventually made good on the funds.

Hathaway has not confirmed the split personally or through her reps, although even People magazine claimed to have a source stating it was true. She said on an episode of The View that aired last Thursday that “I’m kind of somber today.” When asked by Joy Behar if she had mood swings she said “Let’s not go there.”

It sounds like Hathaway’s personal wealth would have been at risk if she stayed with this creepy charmer. Her film Get Smart ruled the box office its opening weekend with $38 million in gross revenue. Her career can only rise, especially now that she’s gotten rid of the dead weight.

Anne Hathaway and Raffaello Follieri are shown at the Waverly Inn on 3/9/08. She is also shown in NY on 6/17 (in the leather pants) and 6/19, thanks to WENN.

Anne Hathaway’s Ex Arrested

Posted on 24 June 2008 by JoyCeleb

Anne Hathaway's Ex Arrested | Anne HathawayItalian businessman Raffaello Follieri, whom Get Smart actress Anne Hathaway broke up with earlier this month, has been arrested for fraud, money laundering and conspiracy to commit wire fraud.

Follieri, no stranger to scandals, has been accused of lying to investors, claiming to be the CFO of the Vatican, the Associated Press reports. He is due in Manhattan federal court Tuesday.
Hathaway, 25, is not mentioned by name in the complaint against Follieri, 29, but he’s accused of using the swindled funds in question for a trip to the Dominican Republic over New Years 2005/2006 with his “then girlfriend” and another couple. According to the papers filed by the U.S. Attorney’s Office, he also used the funds for his $37,000-a month-apartment rent, medical bills for himself and his “then girlfriend” as well as orthodontist bills for his father.

The complaint also charges that he kept clergy robes in his office and once asked a monsignor to change into the uniform of a more senior clergyman in order to beef up his alleged Vatican connections.

According to another new press release the U.S. Attorney’s Office issued, Follieri could go to prison for life.

Breakdown of the Charges

• Six counts of wire fraud and each count carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
• Five counts of money laundering and each count also carries a max of 20 years in jail.
• One count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, which carries a maximum penalty of 5 years behind bars.

Checkered Past

Hathaway and Follieri have been in the spotlight for several months as a result of his legal issues.

Follieri was recently under investigation by the New York State Attorney General’s office, which has no record of IRS tax disclosure forms necessary for his charitable Follieri Foundation.

He was also arrested in April for allegedly writing a $215,000 bad check, but was cleared of that charge upon repayment of the funds.

On June 16, Hathaway walked the Get Smart red carpet alone in Los Angeles, with friends confirming the on-and-off-again couple’s current split.

Hathaway’s rep declined to comment.
